I haven't had a chance to read all of Moy Yat's Seminar on Kung Fu Life, and perhaps I should before posting this. From what I did read, Moy Yat talks a lot about the importance of kung fu family. I'm just curious how any of you deal with other friends, family, meaningful people in your life that don't train. If you live a Kung Fu Life, how do you share that with them if they aren't willing to train. Do you just not acknowledge that part of your life when you're in their company, even though it is ever-present? Do you try and make them understand? Or is there some other way? Let me know what you think... as I'm still not sure what's best.
Escrito por Dave Weingeist a las November 21, 2003 07:28 AMhehehe that is a very good question. I have the same trouble, I even find opposition, some people don't like me playing kung fu and try to discourage me on continuing doing so..
I think that kung fu is in everything you do but that can't be seen by the not-kungfu eye, kungfu is not only about punching and kicking, it's also a way of thinking and understanding things.
That is another reason why to cover your kungfu..

I dont talk to people I meet about my training, someitmes someone will ask, when they do I dont hide anything, but its not something that people will really understand.
I have a hard time with this too.
I've been training so much that I've definetely
neglected my non training friends.
Lately I try to look at my training like a career. I know what my dad does for a living, but I dont know the details. I know the name of what my brother studies in college but I don't know anything about what it really is. If someone asks about Kung Fu I think its best to treat it similarly to how you treat someone who comes to the school for an intro. It's hard, but I know I've been making a conscious effort to not talk about my training with non training people and those relationships have replenished.
If someone is really against you training Kung Fu then maybe they are not really as good of a friend as you thought? I'm not sure... what would they rather have you be doing?
Tell your family or friends that you do Karate, it's easier than trying to explain kung fu life and they won't try to a cult-member intervention with you.... ;)
