How come Bruce is standing on the opposite side of Yip Man than I remember seeing any other formal kung fu picture.

no clue, but I thought that being to sifu's right meant being his student..
the photo could have been flip-sided...

How do you know it's Bruce Lee?
I thought It'd be moy yat... (although I had my doubts..)

Escrito por Roge a las November 24, 2003 12:57 PM

"If you see someone who does ving tsun kung-fu without anger, that is good ving tsun. If you see someone do ving tsun kung-fu with a lot of anger, that is not good ving tsun."
Makes you think about those "cool" videos from botzepte and leung ting students...although I suppose you must be quiet tired about leung ting discussions so i'll let it be.

"The first year someone learns ving tsun you can tell he knows kung-fu. During the second year, you can tell he knows a little bit. After the third year, you hardly notice they know ving tsun. After 30 years, you won't believe they know kung-fu."

hmmm.so right now it must seem that I am a fucking killing machine :D hehehe.I dont know if I should believe that.I mean ...just look at Moy Tung...

A random question about Leung Ting;
I have never seen a promotion of his where either he or his students have been relaxed. Maybe this is just my ignorant self, but relaxation is important, right!

Escrito por Jeremiah a las November 27, 2003 05:39 AM

I do agree... they don't seem to focus so much on being relaxed.. more so they kind of say that you need to be strong to play wing chun..

Well.. that depends too, I've practiced a bit with enrique gutierrez whose Wing Tsun totally blows my mind and he was ver fast (=relaxed??)

If any Leung Ting guys read this please let us know what you think on relaxation :)

Escrito por Roge a las November 27, 2003 11:49 AM

It is not correct that strength is considered important for the Leung Ting WT students. Actually, the first thing I was taught when I began training, was the neccessity of being relaxed. Repeating time after time SiuNimTao with the goal of achieving to do it relaxed! :( Relaxed to be able to feel the opponent strength and so giving way to it, but not forgetting the neccesity of directing your pressure towards the equilibrium of your enemy. I mean, as you know, for example, when chasing the opponent as you chain-punch him, you need a good pressure so you don't give him a chance to create a gap from you for kicking you, or maybe for grapping you. Also when doing Chi Sao (which it is evident that is wrong if you do it with no relaxation),the pressure must be correct so you can find "holes" in your opponent's strength and you can attack him. Summarizing: the important point is not to mix the concept of pressure with the concept of strength or stiffness, it is absolutely not the same. In your case, Roge, you have probably noticed it on Quiqui Gutierrez, which WT is incredibly fast (maybe a bit too agressive I think)because he is very relaxed, of course, but he also keeps an incredible and well directed pressure. Hope my opinion has been useful for you. By the way, it was a great idea to create this blog dedicated to our favorite martial art! Congratulations and have a nice training! :)

Hey, just a few notes on this article since it was first put up on our Austin site.

1. In order for Bruce to be on Si Tai-gung's right hand side, he would have to be a disciple. Left side was for friends and other non-kung fu family, right side was for disciples / special students.

2. This article is a fake.

3. This article came about when my Sifu and Sihings were calling the magazine in order to submit an article. The magazine was very excited to get more info about the type of article they wanted to do and the family were more than willing to talk about Sigung's method of VT and the magazine called back many times to clarify certain points. So they got enough info about us to make their own article.

4. Sigung never gave an interview. He got pressured into going to one of the few martial art events of his life in the US and ended up getting set next to Rhonda at a table. She recorded many of the things he said and if you knew Sigung, you knew that he would mess with people's heads, that was his sense of humor.

5. Magazine called the school for family pics of Sigung, they were told to F/O. So instead, they took published pics of Sigung and then just put in a bunch of Bruce Lee pics as filler.

6. Put it all together and the magazine has an exclusive "interview" with Moy Yat which was made up of random recordings of Moy Yat at a public event and ideas and statments from the Richmond Moy Yat School.

So why have it on our site? Much like the Ng Moy / Yim Ving Tsun legend, it's a good representation of the system and the real kung fu is hidden inbetween the lines.
