This is something that happened to me not so long ago.
I had been training Ving Tsun for from 3 to 6 months only so you could say I was a beginner.
A friend of mine took me to her home town for the weekend and while we where there she wanted to show me the martial art she had been practicing.
I agreed joyfully because I really enjoy martial arts of all kinds (I had studied many martial arts before knowing VT) and wanted to see what this style I had never heard about had to say . I also secretly wanted to test to see if this VT thing was as good as I thought it was.
We went into the classroom and all the people where dressed up in Gis with coloured belts to show their rankings, the leader was a twenty sevenish year old man who wore a black belt and had everybody respond to his questions with a military-looking sir! something sir!. He was very cocky about it and it all looked as if this was the military and he was sgt. slaughter..
While they where getting dressed I started talking to this old, humble looking man who could be in his fifties. He told me about the system, it's story and such, this system was a mixture of other systems and it had taken some techniques from tiger-style kung fu, so we had a very pleasant talk about kung fu. I liked the guy, he was a red belt which was the second highest but he was very humble about it.
When everybody got dressed up we did some warmup exescises and after that they all put on their sparring gear.. they had the whole set: Head, gloves knees, shins, feet, pectoral... The black belt came up to me and said he would spar with me to see how good my kung fu was..
By that time I just knew very basic stuff.. i.e. chain punch and kicks.. but that was all that I needed. I totally destroyed everybody in that dojo. I was trying really hard not to laugh and to be humble about it not humilliating them, giving excuses and explanations about why he had fallen down on his ass while trying to roundhouse-kick me or why his one-two punches seemed totally ineffective against my chain punch..
It was a really cool experience.. I mean, how many chances do you get to go into a dojo and claim the plaque? :p
I didn't laugh or anything and was very respectful about it, at least until my friend and I left the gym and where going back home, when I started laughing and couldn't stop going on about it for a week! :D
hehehe, while I was sparring there was this little asian kid who was asking my friend if I was going to train with them and that where could he learn to do what I did... :D when I was about to leave he approached me and told me that he was learning spanish.. hehehe
So this goes to say that: DUDE VING TSUN REALLY WORKS!! NO BULLSHIT!!

If you have been able to do that only having trained a few months, using chain punches and front kicks, try to imagine what would you do if you keep training VT, I mean, when you start with chi-sao training and all these things. I have been training WT LeungTing for the last 2 years, and every day I train I like it more and more, and I feel it more and more effective. By the way, I know you are a friend of P. so I hope we could meet some day and talk about our style (besides I would like to know the differences between all the WingChun styles, I mean, WC,VT,WT, etc)Have a nice training!
